Kim Hellberg in a positive mood as Boro look to get to Wembley

Jimmy Lees

We gathered in the press room for what could be our final pre-match press conference of the season.

Kim Hellberg 11th May

We are all hoping that isn’t the case as Middlesbrough head to Southampton for the second leg of their play off semi final with Southampton.

Kim was quick to look back at Saturdays performance, and in particular the first half as the best performance he has seen. Especially when looking at the quality of the opponent.

That performance in particular has given the head coach and his players a lot of confidence for the second leg.

As the questions continue, Tommy Conway was in a playful mood as he makes faces through the window like he has binoculars on. That level of playfulness just goes to show what a great atmosphere there is in the camp.

Onto Spygate, Kim was clear that he answered all he could on Saturday. On that, he was fantastic in handling the situation in that post match press conference, something that can’t be said about his opposite number.

People were trying to get more questions out about Spygate, but Kim was laughing the efforts off in good spirits.

The build up to Saturdays game was nothing short of superb from the club. That build up generated an atmosphere never seen at The Riverside Stadium before. Kim was keen to point out just how proud he was of everyone involved, including the fans and players. A memory that will always stay with him.

Some people would feel anxious in such situations, not Kim Hellberg. He is happy, excited and calm about the situation they find themselves in.

Some player news. It looks unlikely that Hayden Hackney will play a part against Southampton. He has travelled with the squad, but it probably comes a week or two too early. Kim said his aim is to be fit for the final…..

Two more players were mentioned in Matt Targett and Teessides own, Dael Fry. Two players who find themselves out of contract at the end of the season. These are decisions out of Hellbergs hands, but he expressed how much he has enjoyed working with them both and referred to them as “great human beings”

That statement alone shows how much of a class act Kim Hellberg is.

Whatever happens tomorrow, the club, head coach and fans have done everything they possibly can do to give the players the best chance possible. It’s now down to those lads.

Cheer them on as much as you can. If you are travelling down, safe journey to you. If we are seeing you in STACK, then come and say hello.

Good luck to everyone involved.

We Shall Be.
