Juninho Arrives on Teesside

“I hope to see as many Boro fans as I can,” was the heartfelt message from Middlesbrough FC legend Juninho as he stepped back onto Teesside soil just after 1pm today.

The Little Fella has made his long-awaited return to his second home to attend a special night-with-the-fans on Thursday evening, hosted by local radio station The Red Radio.

Arriving at Darlington Station, Juninho shared his excitement: “It’s fantastic to be back. I loved my time with Middlesbrough and didn’t want to leave. It is so special for me to be here again and to meet with the fans. I hope to see as many Boro fans as I can. It will be emotional to meet up again with Higgy and the supporters. It will be an excellent night and I’m really looking forward to having a lot of fun.”

Juninho will reunite with former teammate Craig Hignett on stage at The Globe in Stockton as part of the Boro Legends – Magic Midfielders event. The two players will share stories of their time at the Riverside and engage with fans in a series of on-stage challenges.

Unfortunately, Paul Merson, who was also scheduled to attend, has had to withdraw due to a family emergency. Dave Roberts, owner of The Red Radio, commented: “While we are deeply saddened by this news, we fully support Paul in prioritising his family needs. Our thoughts and best wishes are with him and his loved ones.”

In light of Juninho’s desire to connect with as many fans as possible, additional seats in The Globe theatre have been made available. The seats in the back rows of the Circle, originally not planned for use due to their distance from the stage, are now available at a reduced price of £30 each. These tickets can be snapped up while the limited number remains available.

Tickets for Thursday’s event can be purchased at Stockton Globe – Boro Legends Magic Midfielders.

COMING TO STOCKTON GLOBE: THURSDAY 1ST AUGUST 2024

Stockton-on-Tees, UK – Brazilian football legend and World Cup winner Juninho is set to make a triumphant return to Teesside, thanks to local radio station, The Red. Juninho, a beloved former Middlesbrough FC player, will join teammates Paul Merson and Craig Hignett for an unforgettable evening of entertainment and banter at the iconic Stockton Globe on Thursday, 1st August 2024.

This special event, “Boro Legends – Magic Midfielders”, hosted by The Red, promises to be a night to remember for football fans and the local community alike. Attendees will be able to relive some of Middlesbrough FC’s most memorable moments and hear first-hand accounts from three of the club’s legendary figures. Fans attending will also have the unique opportunity of joining the players on-stage to participate in football themed competitions.

Dave Roberts, owner of Red Army Group UK Ltd, the parent company of Red Radio, expressed his enthusiasm for the event: “We are absolutely thrilled to finally bring Juninho back to Teesside. It has taken me five years and three face-to-face meetings with him, but his schedule has not allowed him to make the journey back to his second home.

“His impact on Middlesbrough FC and the local community was immense, and we know how much he is still adored by the fans. This evening is a celebration of those unforgettable years and a chance for supporters to reconnect with their heroes. We are proud to host such a prestigious event at the Stockton Globe and look forward to a fantastic night of football memories and entertainment.”

Fan favourite Juninho played 148 times for the Boro across three spells at the Riverside Stadium and is fondly remembered for his sublime skills on the ball and even had a song released by fans in his honour.

Affectionately known as “The Little Fella” during his time at Middlesbrough, Juninho shared his excitement about returning to his second home: “I can’t wait to be back on Teesside and meet the fans. The way they welcomed me to Middlesbrough was incredible, it’s in my heart. I’ve always held a place in my heart for the people and for the town. The event is going to bring back so many good memories, it is going to be so special for me too. See you soon.”

Paul Merson joined Middlesbrough from Arsenal in a move that caught many by surprise. His time playing under Bryan Robson culminated in featuring in the 1998 League Cup Final, where Boro took Chelsea to extra time at Wembley before losing 2-0.

After first arriving on Teesside in 1992, Craig Hignett still lives in the area. The adopted Teessider completes the trio on stage and is the Boro voice of “The 3 Legends” radio show across the North East.

Jo Ager, Venue Director for the Stockton Globe, said “We are thrilled to be partnering with Red Radio to bring such a special event to the venue. Boro fans will have the chance to get up close and personal with some of the club’s most iconic players as they unite on the stage which has hosted some of the world’s biggest stars. As a well-established venue within Teesside, we are well versed in offering a range of live entertainment events and we are excited to open up our doors once again for a memorable sporting experience for our area.”

Tickets for the event are expected to sell out quickly, so fans are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment. This is a rare chance to see Juninho, Paul Merson, and Craig Hignett together on stage, reminiscing about their time at Middlesbrough FC and engaging in lively banter that is sure to entertain.
