Last night (17th July) , the Brazilian Carling Cup and World Cup Winner Juninho was LIVE on The Red Radio, joined by his Middlesbrough FC colleague Craig Hignett. The special broadcast was part of the run-up to “A Night to Remember – Boro Legends with Juninho,” set to take place at the Stockton Globe on August 1st. The show aired on The Red Radio and streamed on Facebook Live from 6 pm to 7 pm, hosted by Red Radio owner Dave Roberts.
During the hour-long program, Juninho reflected on his time at Middlesbrough FC, sharing memories and fielding questions from passionate Boro fans. In an exclusive statement, Juninho revealed a significant regret from his career. He disclosed that then-manager Steve McClaren had suggested he move on from the club, despite the team’s triumphant Carling Cup victory against Bolton in 2004.
Juninho expressed his disappointment, stating, “I regret leaving Middlesbrough FC after our Carling Cup win. My dream was to play European football with Boro, and it was heart-wrenching to miss the UEFA Cup journey that followed.”
Craig Hignett, who was also part of the broadcast, added, “I couldn’t believe Steve McClaren would ask someone as good as Juninho to leave the club after such a monumental victory and a solid 11th place finish in the league. Juninho was an integral part of our team.”
Dave Roberts, the owner of The Red Radio, commented on the show, “It was an absolute privilege to host Juninho and Craig Hignett on our station. Hearing Juninho’s heartfelt reflections and his connection with the Boro fans was truly special. We’re all looking forward to ‘A Night to Remember’ at Stockton Globe.”
